If you walk into 9 out of 10 dev shops and ask them to design an app they will call in their graphic designer and whip out Photoshop to get started.  Pardon us while we take a step back, grab our pencils, index cards, and start with how your project will feel in your hands. 

UX Design is not Graphic Design

The first thing to understand about UX design is that it is not about the color schemes, fonts, or all that other important stuff that will eventually add up to be your site.  Really, it comes down to how a user will interact with the project and what happens between those pretty pictures - the transitions, the subtleness which makes your app or site yours.
